Death Valley SUV Trails

Death Valley SUV Trails

19.95

This is a four-wheelers guide to 40 interesting and scenic outings in the greater Death Valley Region. These rough road adventures will take the backroad explorer into relatively little visited places far off the well-beaten tourist routes. These are not roads you will want to take in your low-slung family sedan or sports car. While not all of the routes described require the use of four-wheel drive, they do require high clearance vehicles. Each outing described includes a description of flora, fauna, geology, and man's history encountered along the way. Localized maps, key GPS coordinates, and a degree of difficulty rating are provided for each road described.

Roger Mitchell is no stranger to the land he writes about. Growing up as a child and teenager in Trona at the edge of Death Valley, his interest in desert plants, animals, and geology was whetted by the environment around him. Roger's outdoor photography and writings have appeared in numerous periodicals. In the 1960s and 1970s, he authored Death Valley Jeep Trails and a half a dozen similar titles covering the Sierra Nevada, Inyo and Mono Counties, and western Nevada. In recent years, all of those original titles have been updated and expanded in this new "SUV Trail" series, which are widely available in local area bookstores, visitor centers, and museums. (A complete listing of the author's current books can be found on www.trackandtrailpublications.com). Roger and his wife Loris have spent years traveling in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. They currently live on a mountaintop near the south entrance to Yosemite National Park.
